Urban Assistance

The Office of Urban Assistance at the Illinois Department of Commerce administers programs designed to address the unique challenges and economic needs of residents, businesses and stakeholders in the state’s urban areas.  Our programs are intended to increase access to fresh foods, provide job training opportunities for the building trades industry and weatherization services, and create jobs in disadvantaged communities across the state.

In addition, our Office works to:

  • Incentivize new industrial enterprises to locate in urban areas of Illinois, thereby stimulating local economies and creating jobs;
  • Gather and provide information on revitalization efforts of urban areas to public and private entities; and
  • Recommend and formulate policies that result in the rebuilding of urban economies.
