Khama Sharp

As Assistant Director, Mr. Sharp is invested in creating equitable economic opportunities across the state. He supports Illinois small businesses, local governments, and non-profits by providing direction and oversight over several bureaus within the Department dedicated to grants, entrepreneurs, community assistance, and assisting the agency with their legislative agenda.

Mr. Sharp has over 15 years of experience supporting business and economic development. Before this role, he served as the Deputy General Counsel of the agency, where he had a significant role in helping Illinois businesses receive much-needed capital by supporting policy development and implementation for our business support programs and ensuring award compliance with applicable rules. He also has a wealth of experience in the legislative branch, which includes serving as Senior Legal Counsel for the Office of the Senate President of the Illinois State Senate and in various capacities with the U.S. House of Representatives.

Mr. Sharp holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Minnesota and a Juris Doctor degree from Howard University - School of Law. He resides in Springfield, Illinois, with his wife and four children.
