Office of Tourism
What We Do
The Illinois Office of Tourism (IOT) manages industry efforts that result in sustainable and significant economic and quality-of-life benefits for all Illinois residents. Our office promotes Illinois as a premier travel destination for leisure travelers and for meetings, conventions, and special events, attracting domestic and international visitors. We partner with 37 certified Convention and Visitor Bureaus (CVBs) throughout the state to advertise Illinois' assets and to promote our strengths at tradeshows and events. As a result, our tourism industry welcomes more than 67 million visitors per year, who spend $23 billion in visitor expenditures annually.
Our Tools
We have many initiatives and programs to market Illinois as a prime tourism destination through paid and earned media. One of our primary tools is our website, Enjoyillinois.com, which is a comprehensive travel resource for Illinois visitors and residents. Enjoy Illinois is also the name of our seasonal travel magazine, showcasing our latest offerings with full color images and insightful articles. These, along with an active social media presence and more help promote all the state's diverse regions: Chicago & Beyond, Land of Lincoln, Great Rivers Country, and Trails to Adventure.
The Illinois Office of Tourism continues to spearhead creative campaigns to shine a light on the many rewards Illinois has to offer. One ongoing feature is the Illinois Made program, which encourages visitors to discover local products, see Illinois craftspeople at work, and bring home some authentically Illinois products.
IOT administers grant programs that support this mission by providing funds to organizations throughout Illinois for many different purposes, including, but not limited to development, marketing & promotion, etc. A Grantee resource site and current funding opportunities may be found here.
