Filming In Illinois

Dear Filmmakers,

Welcome to the Illinois Film Office!

2025 was a record-breaking year for Film and TV Production in Illinois with over $700 million in qualified production spending.

On December 12, 2025, Governor JB Pritzker extended the Illinois Film Production Tax Credit through 2038. The expanded credit now allows for 13 non-Illinois resident crew members and up to six non-Illinois resident actors to have their wages included in the tax credit.

This major expansion also includes 5% uplifts for TV series relocating to Illinois, a 5% credit on Illinois labor for productions filming outside of the Chicago Cook County area, and the first-in-the-nation 5% uplift for certified green (sustainable) productions.

Illinois is home to nationally renowned crew and actors, complete industry infrastructure, and our robust and sustainable 30% film tax credit. With experts on locations, housing, and tax incentives, the IFO is here to help make your creative vision a reality.

We are, of course, anchored by one of the most beautiful, sophisticated cities in the world. But our locations go way beyond the scope of Chicago's iconic skyline, world famous architecture, gritty back alleys, and unique, historic neighborhoods. We also boast breathtaking natural vistas, mid-size industrial centers, picturesque farmland, and small towns seemingly frozen in time. We have rivers, prairies, forest preserves and 58 miles of pristine Lake Michigan beaches.

Learn what some of the most talented producers, directors, writers, and actors all know: we are a world class destination for film, television, and commercial advertising production. In other words, Illinois is the perfect place for your next project. We look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

Peter Hawley
